3 year old boy bitten – Who’s to blame?
The victim’s father blames the authorities and served a legal notice to the city mayor, and the state government, demanding for a compensation for the dog bite on his 3- year old child.
An advocate issued the legal notice to Municipal Corporation which claims that it was the responsibility of the authorities to solve the problem of stray dogs and ensure citizens’ safety.
The notice stated that Rs. 2 lakh would be needed for the boy’s treatment. And, the administration must pay an additional Rs. 3 lakh for the mental harassment caused to the family.
Joginder Singh, the victim’s grandfather said, “My grandson’s life has changed, he’s afraid to leave the house. He is barely three and has to undergo plastic surgery, which is horrific not just for the family but for the child too.”
Rajesh Dhiman, Municipal Corporation Mohali Commissioner said, “We are trying our best to control the stray dog menace and will hasten the work to catch them. We keep getting calls from local residents and attend to them. Our work suffered because of the code of conduct in force during the assembly elections. The contract for vaccination and sterilization of dogs had ended. We have floated tenders for new contract. I’ll try to visit the boy.”
No compensation given yet
The matter of compensation is pending and nothing has been decided so far.
