Over 1,000 Animals Could Starve To Death Due To Lack Of Funds At Noida Shelter

The society for the prevention of cruelty against animals (SPCA), the only shelter and Animal Hospital in Noida’s sector-94 is going through a tough time since last 3 months.

Over 1,000 animals in the shelter could starve to death as Noida’s Shelter is facing a grave financial crunch. The shelter is undergoing a terrible shortage of food and medicine requires for the animals. The shelter has around 700 dogs, 300 cows, some bulls, horses and donkeys.

SPCA

The shelter was earlier known as the society for the prevention of cruelty against animals (SPCA), a non-profit organization working on contract basis with the Noida Authority. But since January, the authorities withheld the salaries owing to complaints against SPCA.

Despite running out of cash all the members of the NGO volunteered to work at the shelter. They have been working without any salary for the past 3 months.  The authorities released a one-time fund for the shelter of Rs 20 lakh. However, the contract between the Noida authority and the volunteers of the animal shelter ended in June and that’s when the problems arose.

In the coming days animals will go without food or medicine because the shelter absolutely has no money on them.

Animal shelter

Vidhi Shukla, in charge, animal shelter claims that the shelter needs Rs 16 lakh on a monthly basis to function properly.

As a responsible citizen of India, here’s what you can do:

You can call the OSD (NA) at 0120-2422213 and demand immediate action – at least staff salaries for a start.

You can also write to the Noida Authority at [email protected],  [email protected], [email protected] & let the subject of your e-mail be : NON-PAYMENT OF STAFF SALARIES FOR 3 (THREE) MONTHS

You can ask the concerned authorities to look into this matter seriously.
