Bengaluru: On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is an avid dog-lover, said an online software would be developed for adopting and taking care of stray dogs.
Presenting his government’s last budget in the Legislative Assembly, he said with this, an opportunity is created for dog lovers to adopt dogs by registering their names.
Chief Minister Bommai also announced a Rs 5 crore grant for the development of the Mudhol Hound canine breed, recognized by the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR). Recognized globally, the breed has the honor of being inducted into the Indian Army.
To prevent violence against animals and for the welfare of animals, he said a grant of ₹ 5 crores will be provided to the Animal Welfare Board.
The Board will launch mobile veterinary clinics in Bengaluru to treat deserted animals. In 2021, videos and pictures of Mr. Bommai flanked by family members bidding farewell to his dog ‘Sunny’ by reaching down to kiss it, just ahead of the pet’s last rites to be performed, and wiping his eyes with a handkerchief, had gone viral on social media.
Mr. Bommai is usually seen affectionately caressing and kissing cows after performing ‘Gau Puja’ wherever he goes.
He was in tears after watching Rakshit Shetty-starrer “777 Charlie”, which was based on a dog, in July last year.
