Furever Friends Help Dog Owners Find Their Missing Dog

Furever friends is a small group of people with active members who volunteer to help find missing pets and also help stray dogs in the tricity region. This Chandigarh–based group also runs a free ambulance service for stray animals and has successfully traced two missing dogs in the tricity so far.

Recently, a six-month-old pit bull Mogambo disappeared from its owner’s house on Saturday, a dog lover circulated the dog’s information on social networking sites. The pet was found 24 hours later with the help of the group – whose volunteers, including college students posted photographs of the dog and searched the location from where it went missing.

“The area is scanned by our members who either ride a cycle or looking for the pet during morning walk in the area where the dog went missing. So far, we have traced two Labradors.” Says Vikas Luthra of Furever Friends.

“Pet owners contact us in case the animal goes missing and we provide full assistance in tracing it. So far, we have come across 10 instances where pets have gone missing,” he added.

Why pets get stolen?

Most pets are stolen for breeding. If your pets are sterilized, chances of it being stolen are comparatively less.

All pet dogs should be trained to walk with their owners and not allowed to go out of sight. Nowadays, walking your dog on a leash is becoming a necessity as compared to letting the dogs walk freely. Also, the dog must wear a collar with contact details of the owner.

What to do if your dog suddenly disappears?

  • Visit the most likely places where your dog might go or visit local parks and public places.
  • Talk to people. Ask them to keep an eye open for your dog.
  • If you believe your pet has been stolen, report it to the police and insist on registering it as a theft and not a lost animal.
  • Print posters and paste them in your area or distribute them among neighbors. You can also paste posters in relevant places like local parks. The poster should have a photograph and other details about your pet dog.
  • Make sure that the local vets are informed about the stolen or missing dog.
  • Contact local animal shelters and rescue charities, and send them posters to display.
