A surprising reunion unfolded for a family in Queens, New York, who had lost their dog earlier this year. While attending an adoption event at Union Square Park in Manhattan, they stumbled upon their beloved pet, Mocha.
According to the family, they intended to explore the event and potentially find a new puppy, not expecting to encounter Mocha. However, upon entering the venue, they were astounded to see their furry companion right before them, as relayed by the family to NY Daily News.
Sandy, as the dog had been renamed by the Animal Care Centers of New York City (NYCACC), had arrived at the Brooklyn ACC approximately one month earlier. She was discovered tied to a post near the ASPCA. The shelter staff noticed her exhibiting the qualities of an ideal family dog.

“We decided to call her Sandy, and she quickly won the affection of our staff and volunteers,” mentioned Jay Damashek, a volunteer from Animal Care Centers, in an interview with the NY Daily News.
During the Paws in the Park adoption event, Sandy donned a blue “adopt me” shirt, catching the attention of Mocha’s owner, who preferred to remain anonymous. The owner’s wife suspected a resemblance and expressed her observation, leading the owner to look closer. Instantly recognizing their long-lost companion, the owner called out Mocha’s name, prompting a joyful response from the dog.
The family, comprising three children aged 6, 10, and 11, immediately decided to bring Mocha back home. However, they needed to provide proof of ownership before they could proceed.
After confirming the family’s ownership and witnessing Sandy’s joyful reunion with them, NYCACC expressed their delight in an Instagram video announcing Mocha’s return home.
Upon Mocha’s reunion with her family, the owner noticed signs of exhaustion and significant weight loss. The owner expressed relief that Mocha did not appear to have endured any mistreatment commonly associated with pit bulls, such as being used for bait or fighting, as she displayed no visible scars.
Thrilled to have Mocha back in their lives, the family is prepared to pamper her again. One of the owners highlighted several remarkable qualities of Mocha that they are happy to have reunited with, including her protective nature, her tendency to nibble and her love for swimming and the water.
