A dog named Cooper made headlines when he walked 64 km back to return to his former owner. Cooper was recently adopted by a new family that lived in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He stayed there for a while and had to share space with another dog named Molly. But he soon left the new owner’s home and trekked back to his former home.
Local media reported that the former owner could not care for the dog and had reluctantly sent the dog to the kennels.
When the new owner Nigel Fleming found out about Cooper, he connected with a missing pets charity, Lost Paws NI, to get help for a search operation. However, Cooper managed to dodge the search party for 25 days.
On 22 April, the charity received information that locals spotted a Golden Retriever. He was wandering around local properties.
On 27 April, the charity was informed by locals again that the dog was seen moving back to his previous home.
Cooper took 27 days to walk back to his old home. When Lost Paws NI received information and a photo of a messy, but alive Cooper, they informed his new owner. He was delighted to hear this news.
“Over 27 days, without human assistance, Cooper traveled across major A-roads, woodlands, farms, and country roads to return home from a place he had never been. We are overjoyed to have been a part of his rescue and this narrative”, Lost Paws NI said.
Nigel Fleming, the new owner, was stunned when he discovered Cooper ran away from his home to return to his former owner. But he was also happy that Copper had reached a safe place.
