Kochi: After a three-year break, the Canine Club of Cochin organized a national-level pet show at Marine Drive ground on Sunday.
Pet lovers, owners, and breeders came from all over the city to participate in the All India All Breeds Championship Dog Show. And with viewers praising their every move, dog stars stole the show.
As the two-day event drew close, a Rottweiler and Labrador were declared best in the show in two separate categories. The venue turned out to be a sought-after destination on Sunday evening, even as the final round in the contest was underway.
Kids, young people, and the elderly turned up in big numbers to witness the contestants display their skills even while their owners were seen commanding and cheering them up from outside the rings. Many were seen crowding around the dogs to take photos while children vied with each other to cuddle tiny dogs like chow chows.
Though some viewers were cautious and stayed a few steps away from giant dogs like Rottweilers, kids enjoyed their moments with the dogs in the auditorium.
Around 220 dogs belonging to 43 breeds participated in the show. This is because there were so many foreign and Indian dog breeds, many of them likable and worth seeing. Rajapalayam, Caravan Hound, Kombai, Kanni, Chippiparai, and Mudhol Hound were the Indian dog breeds that participated in the show.
Many stalls marketing dog food, leashes, toys, medicines, and bathing materials were also set up at the venue.
National-level judges selected the best dogs in the rings, and the winners were gifted with prizes during the farewell session.
