Another animal cruelty incident has come up in Tricity area. A resident of housing board colony, Anil Suri, has allegedly killed a stray pup in Panchkula. The Kalka police has booked a case under section 428 of the Indian Penal Code (IPL) on the basis of complaint registered by his neighbor, Shivani, on May 16, 2017.
Shivani, a Kurukshetra University graduate, in her complaint said that a stray female dog had given a litter of 10 pups in their area in February. The residents of the locality had been taking care of these pups in terms of food. The puppies would wander around the area and play with kids and residents of housing board colony.
She alleged that last week, Suri came out of his house with a stick and beaten the pups. One of them suffered multiple fractures on its leg as well as waist and lower back. As a result, the puppy died on Monday. After a post – mortem examination, the carcass was buried by the Municipal Corporation.
What local residents say
“What we know is that the pups or the dog never harmed anybody. This was inhumane. So, we went to the police,” said Shivani.
Prapti Bajaj, an adviser with Animal Welfare Board of India as well as an activist working for rehabilitation of stray dogs, has tried to immediate arrest of the accused.
“All stray dogs are not rabid. You have to have a humane approach. Nobody has the right to attack them, especially pups. We shall get in touch with the complainant’s family and might shift the pups to some other place,” said Bajaj.
The accused still not arrested
Surjeet Singh, Kalka police station house officer said that the investigations were in progress and no arrests have been made so far.
