First time in the tricity, a group of city-based animal lovers and a dog trainer have started a dog cuddling service for corporates in Chandigarh. The unique thing is that they train only “Desi” Indian dog breeds to be cuddle specialists and provide free services for corporates. This kind of service is already available in Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune, but they use pedigree breeds only!

Vikas Luthra, founder director, Forever Friends Foundation, who initiated the service said,
“The people in corporate sector work under a lot of pressure on a daily basis. So, we started the cuddle service around three months back and decided to do it through our desi dogs. Only trained desi and Indian breed dogs are going to treat stressed employees. The reason behind it is to relieve stress by playing with the dogs and also to make people friendly with the Indian breed dogs as they are the ignored in our country.”
The desi Indian dogs are being trained by professional behaviorist and dog trainer Divay Dahia.
“We train Indian dogs in their natural localities instead of confining them to four walls. We become friendly with them, see the behavior in different environment and give one to three weeks training to the dogs before taking them for cuddle service. After the service, we drop them back. We also motivate people in the neighborhood to feed the dog in the shelter we make for it in his locality,” said Dahia.
Currently, they have 3 to 4 dogs that have been trained and more are being trained. According to experts, Indian breed dogs are smarter and best for this service.

“They understand better and are more adaptable. While training them, we realized that they learnt faster than pedigree dogs and were friendlier than any other canines,” Dahia said.
Some corporates have not been welcoming to the new service even as they are free for them.
“The service is for free but some corporates don’t allow dogs inside, so they did not show interest. However, we are going to another two and three companies that showed interest. The trained dogs go twice or thrice in a week,” Luthra said.
