Bhubaneswar: A pet owner, Dibakar Raita and his family were living in Sebekapur village of Gajapati district, that  is 400 kms far from Bhubaneswar. After the incident, the dog owner and his family were in a state of shock and disbelief. They are still mourning their loyal dog who gave his life to protect his family.

“I’m shocked. He has made the supreme sacrifice for me and my family. I will remember him till our death. I pray God – May his soul rest in peace,” said Dibakar.

The snakes have been identified as mountain cobras. These kind of snakes are usually seen in the region during monsoon season, when the rain fills their nests with water.

On a Monday evening, 4 snakes tried to get into Dibakar Raita’s house. Their family pet dog was at the gate and challenged the cobras. The dog fought the snakes that were trying to get into the house. Witnesses said that the fight between the dog and the snakes went for quite sometime and much blood was shed during the fight. The loyal dog did not stop until it killed all the four snakes, stopping them from harming his human family. However, he got bit many times during the fight and collapsed after the poison took affect. The villagers laid floral wreaths on his dead body and held a funeral procession before burying him.
