On Friday, a pack of stray dogs attacked and killed an 18-month-old child in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place in G Sigadam, where the child was playing outside her home and was bitten by the dogs.
The victim was rushed to a nearby government hospital but succumbed to her wounds while receiving medical attention. The child’s parents are mourning the loss of their daughter.
Similar attacks by stray dogs have been reported across the country in recent days. In the Aligarh region of Uttar Pradesh, an elderly man was also killed by a pack of stray dogs last week while walking in a park on the Aligarh Muslim University campus.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of the incidents and issued notices to the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, the vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, and the Aligarh municipal commissioner. The commission has asked for a full report on the incidents within six weeks.
The NHRC has observed increased conflicts between people and stray animals and urged authorities to recognize the seriousness of the issue and take urgent action to resolve it.
