#1 Seasonal Changes

Pomeranians have double coats with a harsh textured outer coat and a soft, thick undercoat. Twice each year, Pomeranians shed their thick undercoat—a “blowing coat” procedure that lasts anywhere from three to six weeks. However, this natural shedding can evolve into a year-round problem for double-coated pups, like Pomeranians, if kept indoors.

If you have a female toy Pomeranian, she will inherently experience total molting because of a hormone change after weaning her litter; this will happen when the little puffballs are six-eight weeks old. However, within six months, your female toy Pomeranian will have her lovely coat back.

You should consult a vet to ensure all’s well with your precious fluffball if your adult Pomeranian has bald spots on its coat.

#2 Overgrooming

Pomeranians need a complete grooming every four to six weeks, including “bath, brushing, nails, ears, and anal glands,” and regular brushing to prevent their fur from matting. However, be aware that extreme grooming can cause hair loss and is also painful for your pup.

Remember that Pomeranians are seasonal shedders, so they will go through more serious periods. Simply brushing your puppy’s fur daily will save you from having to clean up all of the shredded furs you’ll find around your house.

 It will also stop painful knots, extreme dirt, and loose dander in your toy Pomeranian fur. But, most importantly, a good brushing will restore your little princess or divo’s fur and skin. Everybody loves seeing the satisfied look on a completely relaxed pooch.

#3 Puppy Uglies

As threatening as it may be to behold, your sweet small bundle of fur is likely to go through a growth change called puppy uglies, which is a natural procedure for this special breed.

Compared to children who lose their baby teeth, Pom pups are shedding their baby fur about the distinctive, luxurious coat we all know and adore. This procedure lasts anywhere from three to six months. Remember that they will look scruffy, but your toy Pomeranian should have its new fur coat by the tenth month.

Because of the extreme shedding, your little Pomeranian’s fur will change color by a few shades. For example, a white Pom puppy will parade a new cream-colored coat after it has cleared its baby coat. Many dogs go through this procedure as they age, so it’s nothing to worry about.
