Stray dog gets its head free from plastic bottle in Bhubaneshwar

It was the intervention of Sanjay Kumar Singh, BMC Municipal Commissioner, that could save the life of the stray dog that had its head trapped in a plastic container for the last ten days. A local named Debaprasad Mahakud, drew the attention of the civic body with the help of social media on Monday highlighting the plight of the animal which had gone without water and food for the last ten days.

Debaprasad in his social media post wrote, “I have been trying to contact the animal helpline, but there was no response.” It was then, Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Singh saw Debaprasad’s post and sent his team to rescue the dog.

The members of the team quickly reached the spot and set the poor pup free. Later, Municipal Commissioner in his post said, “We are thankful to the citizens showing their love towards stray animals, and it is encouraging. Active participation of everyone and compassion towards animal provides an impetus for taking up such steps.”

Later on the same day, the BMC urged citizens to dial its helpline number 1800 345 7458 for rescuing stray animals injured or in distress. The team will move as soon as it receives the complaint, the officials said and added that the calls are received at Sub Divisional Veterinary Office (SDVO), Saheed Nagar. The team comprises 4 members is also supported by doctors and livestock inspectors who also go to the field for on-site treatment of animals as and when required.
