Bengaluru’s Fat Dog Contest Has a Winner and Its Name Is Goofy

October 22, 2026
3 Min Read

Delhi had its chonkiest dog moment. Bengaluru did not want to be left out.

After the Fat Dogs of Delhi contest went viral in late September 2026, a Bengaluru version appeared almost immediately. The Fat Dogs of BLR page ran a 64-dog knockout contest using the same format: head-to-head matchups, Instagram-style voting, and a bracket that kept going until one dog was left standing. Proceeds from the contest go to Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre, which gives the whole thing a little more weight than just a meme.

The city voted. Goofy, a dog from Nagarbhavi, won.

How It Worked

The format mirrors what Delhi did. Sixty-four dogs were entered. Each round paired dogs against each other, and the one with more votes moved on. The dogs were submitted by their owners or the people who feed and care for them, each one listed with a name and their neighbourhood in Bengaluru.

The two finalists were Goofy from Nagarbhavi and Bachonker McChonketh from Neon Market in Indiranagar. Other dogs in the bracket included Jonathan Joestar from Sahakar Nagar and Dusky, also known as Duskabali, from Whitefield.

Goofy won.

Where This Came From

The original Fat Dogs of Delhi contest was started by an anonymous Delhi University journalism student who had been posting photos of overweight dogs she spotted around the city. Friends shared the posts, people started sending in their own dog photos, and what began as a photo page turned into a full 64-dog knockout bracket run through Instagram Stories. The contest ran from 24 September to 1 October 2026 and drew attention well beyond Delhi, with people joining in from Kolkata and Kerala.

By the time the Delhi winner was announced, Fat Dogs of Mumbai, Fat Dogs of Bengaluru, and Fat Dogs of Chandigarh pages had all appeared. The idea had legs, or at least very round ones.

Why It Works

There is something genuinely warm about this format when it is done well. The fat dog contests give street dogs and community dogs names and neighbourhoods and personalities. Goofy from Nagarbhavi and Bachonker McChonketh from Indiranagar are not just dogs in the background. They are contenders with fans. For a few days, at least, they are celebrities.

The fact that the BLR version is raising money for Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre makes it more than just a Twitter joke with a tournament bracket attached.

Goofy won. Bengaluru has made its choice.
