Man & Dog Rescued from A Frigid Pond in Racine County

On Sunday afternoon, in the village of Raymond in Racine County, a 58-year-old man and a dog were rescued from a pond.

Racine County sheriff’s deputies stated they received a report about a man who had fallen about 50 feet offshore through the ice while trying to rescue a dog.

The man was not able to climb out and hold the edge of the ice to keep the dog afloat. He was in the frigid water for around 10 minutes.

Deputies and a Wisconsin state trooper reached the location within minutes and threw a life safety rope.

The sheriff’s office stated the man could not grasp the rope as his strength was fading. He was pulled through the ice and to shore with the dog.

Raymond Fire/Rescue had admitted the man to a local hospital for examination of hypothermia and lacerations.

The dog, “Bo,” was helped to get out of the water and into a warm vehicle. After warming up, it appeared to be fine, licking deputies and getting their attention.

After the investigation, it was found that two dogs belonging to an elderly female homeowner went onto the pond chasing geese and fell through the ice. She called the man who lives in the neighborhood.

He was walking onto the ice to rescue dogs when he fell.

One dog climbed out before deputies arrived. Both the man and dogs are expected to be completely recovered, the sheriff’s office stated.
