Heartwarming Recovery of Police Dog After Heroic Standoff with Suspect

A brave police dog named Norbi, a Belgian Malinois is making a remarkable recovery after a harrowing encounter with a burglary suspect in upstate New York. On July 5, 2023, Norbi was stabbed 12 times while apprehending the suspect during a pursuit in the Emerald Greens neighborhood of Troy.

The incident unfolded when Norbi and his handler attempted to take the suspect into custody in a wooded area. Desperate to escape, the suspect resorted to a knife, viciously attacking Norbi as the courageous canine held onto him.

Despite the brutal attack, Norbi’s determination and the prompt response from the police team and the skilled veterinary professionals at Upstate Veterinary Services played a vital role in his miraculous recovery. The Troy City Police Department expressed joy and gratitude on Facebook, announcing that Norbi has made an astounding recovery.

In the photos released by the department, Norbi can be seen wearing a bandage around his upper torso and enjoying some much-deserved rest with what appears to be baby food.

The suspect responsible for the attack, identified as 25-year-old Curtis Knockwood, is now facing serious felony charges, including attempted burglary and injuring a police animal. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Troy City Court later this week.
