Dog Show Starts In Ooty Today

Today will mark the commencement of a 3-day dog show in Ooty that is going to be inaugurated at the Government Arts College ground.

The first day will see two important events, starting with “obedience test” where over 30 dogs including 4 police dogs are scheduled to participate in. The second event will be a “specialty show” for Golden Retrievers. It is reported that over 60 Golden retriever dogs will be participating in the specialty show.

What else?

There are going to be about 343 dogs hailing from 45 varied breeds. Some of the highlighted breeds include pug, Doberman, Hounds, Shih Tzu, and Thailand breeds. There will be many other breeds from across the country that will be participating in the events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Championship Show

The championship show for different breeds will be held during these two days.

“This year two new breeds — ‘Bichonfrise’, a French breed, and ‘English Pointer’ — will be introduced in the show. Combai, a breed from Tamil Nadu, will also be introduced as part of a reviving breed,” said the secretary of South of India Kennel Club, Nagina.

There are 3 judges hailing from Australia and the Philippines, who are going to assess the performance of the dogs. It is to be noted that there are 172 classifications made in the 7 groups of dogs that include Hounds, Gun dogs, and Pastoral dog breed.

The dog show is shaping up to be a great crowd puller especially due to the weekend. Also, “Dog of the year” award is to be given to a dog after the show.
