Dog Owners Whose Pets Poop On the Streets To be Fined £100 In Stockport | England

A council has warned dirty dog owners it plans to get tough on fouling – with plans to double on-the-spot fines to £100.

Town hall bosses in Stockport are also considering banning dogs from playgrounds and sports facilities – and introducing a rule so people can only walk four pooches in public at once.

They say the issue is one of the most complained about in the borough.

On-the-spot fines could soon be doubled from £50 to £100.

And it could be compulsory for dogs to be kept on leads at cemeteries and bowling greens.

Other proposed measures include requiring people to have the means to pick up after their dog while they are walking them and giving council officers the power to demand animals are put on leads.

Coun Bailey said: “We know the vast majority of dog owners are considerate and do care about the local environment.But dog fouling is one of the biggest causes of complaints from the public and, by doubling the fine from £50 to £100, we want to send out a strong message that it is not acceptable not to pick up after your dog.”

Caroline Simpson, corporate director for place at the council, said: “We are committed to improving the environment in Stockport but, unfortunately, dog fouling remains one of the biggest causes of complaints from residents.

“The other measures are designed to promote responsible dog ownership.We want to make sure that the council’s greenspaces and public areas can be enjoyed by everybody.”

If fines are not paid the dog owner can end up in court and the penalties can grow.
