An incident of animal cruelty has come to light in Monmouth County, US. A 1-year-old Pit bulldog was left behind in a death trap. The dog was put in a cage and placed on the edge of a beach in Highlands, New Jersey. The slowly rising tide would eventually have drowned the canine. Luckily, a dog walker spotted the dog before the water rose too high. When he found the dog the level of the water was already lapping around the cage. The man climbed over a wall to reach the dog and rescued it safely.
Man saves dog’s life
Now, the incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Monmouth County. They are looking for any information that can help them find the accused who dumped the innocent dog.
“The dog was taken to Highlands Police Department, who then called Animal Control then alerted our office. When Animal Control arrived on the scene the cage almost covered by the rising tide. If not for the heroic rescue act of the Good Samaritan, the dog could have potentially drowned,” the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office wrote in a Facebook post about the incident.
The dog is now in the care of Monmouth County SPCA, they’ve named the dog, River. While sharing the picture of the dog on Facebook, the shelter staff wrote, The dog is physically healthy and appeared to be well cared for prior to being abandoned. River did not have a microchip, so the former owner’s identity is still unknown.
The Monmouth County SPCA is working with Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office to get justice for River.
