Rescued: Dog Missing for Almost 7 Years Found Alive and Thriving in the Wilderness

A stray dog, believed to be missing for several years, was discovered in an English village with the help of an animal rescue group and the caring community feeding her. The journey began when someone reported a small black dog running near Crawley Down in West Sussex to the volunteer nonprofit Lost Dog Recovery UK South in November.

Upon inquiry, it was revealed that locals were familiar with the Patterdale terrier and had occasionally fed her, assuming she might belong to someone in the community. A camera was set up to confirm her situation, capturing the dog’s visits over three days. By the third day, she seemed to be anticipating the arrival of her meals from the rescue group.

Despite initial speculation that she had been straying for about a decade, the rescue later determined that she was a senior dog with graying eyebrows and muzzles. Establishing a feeding routine, the rescue gradually gained her trust. On December 9, a trap with a tempting meal was set, and the dog, named Rose, was successfully captured that night.

Upon scanning her microchip, the rescue discovered that Rose had gone missing in March 2017, just 24 hours after being adopted. Despite initial sightings in the first 10 days, the trail went cold, and Rose’s fate remained unknown until her recent rescue.

The original owners were located but could not care for Rose due to changed circumstances and relocation. While saddened, they expressed relief that she was safe and unharmed. An update on December 18 revealed that Rose received care at Last Chance Animal Rescue in Edenbridge, Kent, England. The nonprofit also mentioned receiving numerous inquiries for Rose’s adoption and directed interested individuals to contact Last Chance Animal Rescue for further details.
