Pet Owners Warned of Urgent Dog Food Recall

Pet owners are being cautioned following the recall of certain pet food products targeted at kittens and puppies by Blue Ridge Beef, a pet food company. The recall was initiated after food inspectors notified the company about Salmonella and listeria contamination.

Blue Ridge Beef, which supplies pet food to 33 states in the U.S., disclosed that the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services discovered the presence of these two harmful bacteria during inspections of their Kitten Grind, Kitten Mix, and Puppy Fever products. In response, as a precautionary measure, the company decided to recall all lots with use-by dates falling between N24 1124 to N24 1224,

Consumers are advised to check the silver tabs at the end of the tubes to identify the affected products. These products were distributed from November 14 to December 20. Blue Ridge Beef urges consumers to dispose of the products in a manner inaccessible to children, pets, and wildlife and has offered a full refund to those who purchased the recalled items.

Blue Ridge Beef emphasized its commitment to using flash-frozen meat without additives or preservatives, highlighting the belief that altering natural states for profit compromises food authenticity. The company has not reported any illnesses related to the recall, and it encourages consumers to contact them for refunds.

In a broader context, this recall is part of a series of recalls linked to Salmonella this year. The announcement comes on the heels of recalls by other pet food manufacturers like Mid America Pet Food, Victor Super Premium Dog Foods, Eagle Mountain Pet Food, Wayne Feeds Dog Food, and certain varieties of Member’s Mark pet foods. It’s important to note that this contamination issue is distinct from the one that prompted a recall on October 27 involving a salmonella outbreak related to Blue Ridge Beef’s Breeders Choice 2lb product distributed between August 9 and August 25.
