Australian Sailor and His Furry Friend Rescued After Two Months at Sea

A doctor reported that an Australian sailor, Tim Shaddock, who endured a harrowing two-month survival ordeal in the Pacific Ocean, consuming raw fish and rainwater, is currently in a stable and healthy condition.

In April, the 51-year-old Sydney resident embarked on a voyage with his dog Bella from Mexico to French Polynesia. However, their boat sustained damage during a severe storm a few weeks later, leaving them stranded.

Their distress signal was spotted by a helicopter, leading to their rescue by a trawler earlier this week.

The tuna trawler’s doctor on board informed that Mr. Shaddock’s vital signs were normal.

Originating from La Paz, Mexico, Mr. Shaddock covered a staggering distance of over 6,000 kilometers (3,728 miles) before his vessel’s electronics were disabled by inclement weather, leaving him adrift in the vast and unforgiving North Pacific Ocean.

When finally located off the coast of Mexico after two months, he appeared noticeably thinner with an overgrown beard.

Mr. Shaddock expressed, “I have been through a very difficult ordeal at sea. I’m just needing rest and good food because I have been alone at sea for a long time. Otherwise, I’m in very good health.”

He credited his survival to fishing gear and sought refuge from sunburn under his boat’s canopy.

Following his rescue, Mr. Shaddock was seen smiling, wearing a blood pressure monitor on his arm, and managing to consume small meals.

The tuna trawler is currently en route back to Mexico, where Mr. Shaddock will undergo medical tests and receive further treatment if required.
