A Twitter user (@peakcooper) named Cooper stated that the AI Chabot ChatGPT has rescued his dog’s life from a blood condition that even could not be diagnosed by the vet.
The user said the dog is named Sassy and was diagnosed with a tick-borne disease. The vet has initiated the treatment, and despite serious anemia, the condition appears to be improving. However, after some days, symptoms get worse despite taking the prescribed treatment.
“I noticed her gums were very pale, so we rushed back to the vet. The blood test revealed even more severe anemia, even worse than the first day we came in. The vet ran more tests to rule out any other co-infections associated with tick-borne diseases, but they came up negative,” Cooper stated in his post on Twitter.
Cooper took his dog to the vet, but they were incapable of a further diagnosis and advised him to note the dog’s condition. Then the owner typed the symptoms on GPT-4 so that it could answer, so he described the situation in detail to the AI chatbot.
“I gave it the actual transcribed blood test results from multiple days, and asked for a diagnosis,” Cooper tweeted. The newest version of ChatGPT offered a compilation with a disclaimer: “I am not a veterinarian, but I can try to help you understand the blood work results and what might be happening with your dog.”
Cooper mentioned that its interpretation was “spot on.”
The AI chatbot recommended that bloodwork and symptoms in the Sassy could indicate immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA).
With this information, Cooper visited another veterinarian, who confirmed the prognosis given by AI and started treatment. Cooper thanked AI for the quick diagnosis and treatment; the dog has almost completely recovered.
Cooper’s Twitter thread went viral some time ago and got eight million views, with several people amazed at how GPT-4 helped the pet owner.
