Dog Gets Trampled To Death By A Moose In Colorado, US

On Saturday, a dog named Arlo was killed after being stomped by a moose on a route in Frisco.

Arlo ran ahead of his owners on the Masontown Trail and encountered three moose. When Arlo attempted to return to his owners, he was stomped by one of the moose. (As per the Summit County Rescue Group.)

When they arrived, Arlo was breathing but unresponsive, according to the rescue team. Nevertheless, the crew could get him off the trail, and his owners transported him to an animal hospital, where he died later.

The dog’s owners describe the incident as a “freak occurrence” that has left them saddened.

The circumstances surrounding the dog’s death are heartbreaking and unfortunate, which is why Colorado Parks & Wildlife advises outdoor enthusiasts to be mindful of their surroundings and prepared for moose encounters.

SCRG’s Anna Debattiste said they’re sharing the story to raise awareness about the dangers wild animals may cause to pets and humans.

She stated that keeping your dog on a leash and keeping them near is a good idea, but they’ve also heard of moose approaching dogs on leashes.

Debattiste explained, “You can’t be too careful around a moose.”

So far this year, they’ve responded to three dog rescues.

“Our major goal is to save people. With that said, we’re all dog lovers that want to help. However, we also know that leaving a human to try to bring the dog out of the backcountry on their own can result in an injured person who we then have to rescue. “Whenever we can, we strive to assist,” Debattiste remarked.

Cow moose will defend their calves vigorously, especially in the presence of dogs, when it comes to safeguarding their young. Moose react to dogs in the same way they do to wolves, one of their main predators. Even the most docile dog will be attacked by a moose as if it were a wolf.
