Drone Operator Will Try To Rescue Stranded Dogs From Volcano

On Tuesday, October 19, a Spanish drone operator received permission to try to rescue 3 emaciated dogs trapped near a volcano in the Canary Islands. The work had to be done by catching them with a remote-controlled net and flying them out over a lava stream.

The 3 dogs have been now stranded for weeks in an abandoned yard covered with volcanic ash on the island of La Palma.

However, the silver lining here is that they have been fed by drones dropping packages of food, but until now, no one has been able to figure out how to rescue them. Since helicopters are banned from flying to the area because of the hot gas which might damage the rotors.

After much evaluation of the proposed rescue mission, the emergency authorities said in a statement they had decided to allow it.

Drone operator and CEO of Aerocamaras, Jamie Pereira said he is planning to send a 50 kg drone equipped with a wide net to try to trap the dogs one by one and fly them to safety, 450m away from overflowing lava.

We are hoping the dogs do not get scared and come along the net.
