People Giving Up Dogs Bought During the Lockdown In The UK

According to a dog welfare organization, since coronavirus limitations were relaxed, more owners are considering putting their dogs up for adoption.

In the last few weeks, the Dogs Trust has seen a 35% surge in calls about giving up dogs. People were rethinking owning a pet when their circumstances altered during the lockout, according to Dogs Trust.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, when more people spent time at home, pet sales arisen in the United Kingdom.

During the lockdown, the price of puppies more than doubled, with canines costing on average about £1,900.

  • ‘UK Households acquired 3.2 million pets in lockdown,’ according to the report.
  • Fosters are now needed for the post-Covid surge at the Dogs Home.
  • During the lockdown, puppy prices skyrocketed.

Following the drop in the Covid measures in England on July 19, the Dogs Trust claimed it had seen a large increase in pet owners considering adoption.

It claimed that visitors to their website’s “giving up your dog” sections jumped by more than 180 percent in July compared to pre-pandemic visits in February 2021.

There was also a 100 percent rise in traffic in July as compared to six months prior, in February.

The Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association reported earlier this year that 3.2 million families in the UK have acquired a pet since the outbreak began.

According to the report, young people were the main drivers of this trend, with more than half of new owners being between the ages of 16 and 34.

According to the organization, there are currently over 34 million pets in the UK, including 12 million dogs.

The RSPCA had previously warned that the surge in pet ownership may lead to a “crisis” for those animals after their owners returned to work following the lockdown and could no longer devote as much time to them.
