A Clever Dog Opened The Luggage Compartment Mid-Flight In Moscow

Recently, a  passenger aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Moscow after a dog opened the luggage compartment from the inside, triggering an alarm onboard.

The incident took place on July 21, 2018. A Boeing 737 was traveling from St. Petersburg and during the flight, a small dog somehow opened the luggage compartment from the inside. An alarm went off when the passenger aircraft was at an altitude of 4,000 meters (13,000 feet).

“The crew safely performed an emergency landing, no one was hurt,” a source at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport told Interfax.

What happened?

After an investigation, it was found that the opening of the luggage compartment was caused due to a small dog whose cage wasn’t properly locked.  The scared puppy apparently got out and in an attempt to escape from the hatch, he unlocked the compartment.

The stubborn puppy “tore the inner lining of the luggage compartment and somehow provoked the opening of its front half-door,” a source told Interfax.

Lucky, the plane’s electronics wouldn’t let it open the hatch, triggered the alarm and blocked it.

“There was a gap of several dozen centimeters, but the dog was unable to get into it and stayed alive,” the source said.
