777 Charlie: Mangaluru Police names sniffer after Rakshit Shetty’s film

The inspiration comes from the recently released Kannada movie Charlie 777, which describes the bond between a dog and the hero. Rakshit Shetty starrer 777 Charlie has fans swooning over the lovely bond between him and the four-legged protagonist.

Now, as the movie melts hearts and has made a buzz everywhere, police in Karnataka’s Mangalore city have jumped on the bandwagon and named their recent recruit Charlie. As a new sniffer dog was inducted, the police department hosted a memorable ceremony to honor the female dog named after the Labrador seen in the movie “Kannada.”

According to the police, the name was indicated after some of its personnel, including dog handlers, watched the Kiranraj K directorial premiere on Thursday.

On Friday, Officers participated with the three-month-old pup in a sweet naming ceremony hosted at the police commissioner’s office and cut a cake. Talking to reporters, Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said he agreed when the staff suggested the name because it seemed fit.

The force told Charlie would now be sent to Bengaluru for six-month basic training. Handler Harish and assistant handler Vikram would also be escorting the pup.

The crew bought the dog recently from Bantwal for Rs 20,000. It will join the city police’s dog squad with other canines Geeta, Rani, Rubu, and Bubly. Bubli and Ruby are deputed for crime detection work; the rest are explosive detection experts.
