Taking your dog to the beach: Rules that you must follow

Sand saver reports suggest that every year two billion people in the United States of America visit different beaches. The people who own pets love to spend time with them.

One of the best ways to spend time with the dogs is to take them to visit the beach. However, there are some rules you need to follow when you are venturing into the sea with your dog.

They must be recall-ready

The American Pet Product Association says that around 75% of the dogs in the country are never trained by specialist dog trainers.

If you have not trained your dog to come back when you call them this is something that you must do before you decide to go to the beach. You can be sure that your dog would be immensely fascinated by the new smells that they encounter over there.

They would be surprised by other families enjoying time with each other and other dogs at the beach. However, please remember that objects such as dead fish can pose problems for the dogs.

This is the reason why you need to train your dog to follow your orders so that they do not take a shine to the dead fishes that they may find over there.

Remember that not everybody out there is fond of dogs. Plenty of people are afraid of them. Your dog should come back when you call them so that there is no untoward incident at the beach.

Visit only the dog-friendly beaches

There are plenty of beaches in the USA that are good for dogs and it is better that you stick to them only. However, it is still better that you check the latest status of any beach before you take your dog over there.

On some beaches, your dog may have permission to visit only at certain times during the day. It depends on the season. On some beaches, your dog would be allowed to visit only certain areas while in others you may have to keep them on a leash as long as they are there.

Coastal areas that are considered best for kids are amenable to dogs too. The safety standards over here are higher. You have fresh running water and lifeguards.

They also are often connected to dog parks, which are great places for your dog to let off some steam. It is especially true for energetic individuals.

Cleaning up properly in case they poop over there

You may not know this a single gram of dog poop contains 23 million fecal coliform bacteria. If it somehow gets into the sea, it can contaminate the water.

Therefore, it can lead to a severe public health issue over there. You should also keep in mind that the other people using the beach might not appreciate having to sit or stand next to your dog’s poop.

You have to take a lot of dog poop bags with you along with a poop scoop. Make sure you can immediately clean up any mess as soon as it’s made.

Keep monitoring them at all times

Never let your dog out of your eyesight when you are out on the beach with them. Keep a constant vigil on their movements. If you are not controlling your dog, there is always a chance they can try to escape.

They may end up disturbing other people on the beach, and then they could shoo them away. This way, they could get lost over there as well. Please remember every year around two million dogs get stolen in the USA.

Tools such as dog trackers can help keep track of your baby, provided some such unfortunate situation happens. You should bring such a tool with you when heading to the beach. A beach is indeed an ideal place for you to spend some quality time with your dog.

However, make sure that everybody else over there can enjoy the day as well. Be as courteous as you can. Take steps to ensure the safety of your dog and the comfort of the other people at the beach.

Some other things to keep in mind while you are at the beach with your dog

Please remember that there are plenty of dangers that you need to be wary of when you are visiting the beach with your dog.

The first name that comes to mind is a rough wave. However, there are other issues that you may not know. These include the dangers that drinking saltwater could pose to their health. As we have talked about already, there are several laws that you have to follow when you are on a beach with your dogs related to scooping poop and leash laws.

There are some other factors that you need to watch out for i. Please remember that there is a good chance that your dog may suffer a heatstroke over there.

Make sure that they have a lot of opportunities to rest and shaded areas where they can do so. It is better to visit the beach when the sunlight is not so strong, such as late or early in the day. You can also apply sunscreen to your little one. Dogs tend to suffer from sunburn.

Hence, you should use pet-safe sunscreens and apply them to their ears, noses, and other areas where the fur is sparse. Make sure that they have a lot of freshwaters to drink.
