How To Give Your Dog A Spa At Home?

If your dog has had a hard day running around and playing in the mud and soil, you must give your furball a good session of bathing that relaxes them. It is essential for them. You can be sure that nothing would soothe them better.

In some cases, your dog may balk at the very prospect of bathing and run away from you if you even touch the shampoo. If that is indeed the case, you need to play a bit smart over here. Before you take them out to play, assemble all that you need to bathe them, such as the various bathing materials and the shampoo.

This way, you would not have to put any effort into running around so that you can catch them and take them to the bathroom for the bath that is so essential after all the rough and tumble.

The importance of a dog massage at home

A massage is something that we humans look forward to as well. However, in the case of our dogs, it works well too. Canine massage has a wide array of psychological and physical benefits for dogs. You can even try doing a basic massage at your home.

It would take you only a few minutes to do so. Apart from the benefits that it has for the dog, a massage builds a bond between you and your best friend and helps strengthen it. You can be sure that nothing works like it as far as dogs are concerned.

It is helpful after you have bathed your baby in lukewarm water. Try to make the massage session last as long as the bathing one. It could be that your dog might not like an aromatherapy session conducted outside your home.

There are several reasons why they may want to be handled by you – the ones they consider their parents.

Massage relaxes them

The first of these is relaxation. With massage, your dog gets complete physical and mental relaxation. The touch of your hand relieves all the aggression and stress that you have built up in your dog. It has been proven that massage helps.

Massaging is capable of reducing anxiety and stress. It is beneficial for dogs. It is applicable for puppies who get easily worried or stressed.

It improves their blood circulation

When you massage a dog, you stimulate the tissues and muscles in their body. It improves the blood circulation in their system. It implies that more oxygen is being circulated throughout their body.

If your dog has suffered any muscle pull, the motion of the massage will help alleviate the same. It is applicable to any pain that they have experienced.

It helps detect injuries

Your dog could injure itself at any point in time. At times, these wounds may be at peculiar parts of their bodies thus you may not have noticed them.

However, it is possible to detect them early when you massage your dog regularly. This way, you can also make your dog live longer and healthier.

The other benefits of massage

Following are the other benefits that your dog would get from regular massage:

  • balance and posture maintenance
  • improved attitude and mental focus
  • distribution of natural oils that promotes healthy coat and skin
  • release of endorphins
  • greater excretion of toxins from the system

The things that you need to keep in mind while giving a dog massage at home

There are a few things that you must keep in mind in this context though.

It is always significant to go slow. It is especially so when you are doing this first time. You have to keep in mind that this is new for your dog. It is of utmost importance to ensure that your dog enjoys the process. Dogs usually love being massaged.

However, if there is any negative reaction, you should note it and honor it. If your dog has any serious health problems, it is better to get the work done by a certified canine massage therapist.

Using essential oils

There are so many ways essential oils can help your dog. One of the options that you can try in this case is combining Neem oil and lavender oil while using coconut oil as the base. However, you have to make sure that you use essential oils for such work. In India, especially essential oils are full of chemical substances at times and can be harmful to your baby. So, please take proper care when you buy them.

Coconut oil

It is a good option owing to its anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties.

Thus, it can be of great benefit to your dogs. It can keep their skin healthy and improve its overall condition as well. It can help clear up skin allergies, spots, and eczema. It makes sure that their fur is smooth and shiny.

Neem oil

Neem oil is a powerful oil that helps fight against fleas and ticks. It clears up fungal infections such as ringworm and yeast infections. It helps them deal with sunburns as well.

Lavender oil

This oil can calm your dog just as it can calm you.

It affects the central nervous system. Thus, applying this oil has a calming experience. It is essential for dogs with anxiety issues, car motion sickness, and insomnia.

Conclusion

If you have a small dog, then three drops of both the essential oils in two tablespoons of coconut oil should suffice for the massage. If you have a bigger dog, you would need around five to seven drops of each of the oils in four tablespoons of coconut oil.

There are some other options that you can try in this regard such as cedarwood oil, geranium oil, eucalyptus oil, and sweet orange oil.
