Australian Resident Rescues Pet Dog from Kangaroo in Heroic Struggle

A man named Mick Moloney in Australia, known for his expertise in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and martial arts, found himself in an unexpected face-off with the kangaroo. The incident happened in Mildura, Australia, where Moloney is living.

The seven-foot kangaroo seized his dog while attempting to drown it in the river. The dramatic encounter was captured on video by Mononey himself, and he shared it initially on TikTok by the Mildura Martial Arts School. Although the original post was removed from TikTok, the footage can still be found on other social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

As Moloney waded into the water towards the kangaroo, he was heard issuing a stern warning to the marsupial while threatening to punch it if it didn’t release the dog. The video becomes shaky as Moloney lands a punch on the kangaroo, momentarily obscuring the view. When he starts recording again, Moloney and his dog emerge from the water while the kangaroo remains in the river.

In the subsequent clip, Moloney is seen to check on his dog, showing his bloodied hand on the camera. He later recounts the incident to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) after explaining that he was stretching on the riverbank when he noticed that his dog, Hatchi, an Akita breed, had gone missing. When they scanned the area, he spotted a large kangaroo in the river, its arms submerged in the water, staring back at him.

Moloney then noticed Hatchi in the water, seemingly trapped in the headlock by a kangaroo. He then described how water was gushing out of Hatchi’s mouth, and he saw the dog yelping in distress. Despite initial attempts to scare off the kangaroo with loud noises, Moloney was forced to confront the muscular creature directly to save his pet.
