Kalyani, Jacky, Sooppi, Blacky, Mallika are no longer wandering on the roads, and now getting ample food and shelter. They are safely sleeping in their kennel. The stray dogs were saved by the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centers of Kudumbashree. Dog lovers can adopt them free of cost. More than 50 of these dogs have been adopted by interested dog lovers.
The ABC team neuters and captures stray dogs. After sterilization, the dogs are taken to the same place where they were found. It has been criticized by many people in society. It was in such a situation that the ABC centers of Kudumbashree came up with the ‘Dogs Adoption Programme’.
Mallika, one such dog was adopted by Anthikkad panchayat president Jyothi Raman and her husband Ramachandran. She has become a family member by now, and they call her Malli. Two weeks ago, they also celebrated her birthday.
Kudumbasree District Mission Co-ordinator Jyothish Kumar said that a special ‘pet stall’ will be opened soon for puppies and dogs. Puppies are in high demand because they are easy to mingle with.
