India’s young all-rounder Washington Sundar made an unexpected debut in the 4th and final Test of India’s Test series at the Gabba in Australia. With India facing injury concerns on the bounce, Sundar, who stayed back as a net bowler after the T20I series, made his debut in Brisbane.
Washington Sundar posted a picture and introduced his four-legged-friend to the world. The 21-year-old captioned the adorable picture and wrote,
“Love is a four-legged word. World, meet Gabba!”

Sundar hadn’t played first-class cricket since 2017, but he adapted to the foreign conditions wonderfully, showcasing his class with the bat when he stitched a game-changing partnership with Shardul Thakur when India were in a spot of bother in their first innings. Sundar’s quickfire knock along with Rishabh Pant helped India breach the Gabba fortress. The off-spinner was also handy with the ball as he picked up big wickets, including that of Steve Smith, in the Brisbane Test.
“I was there for a months after the ODI series, it gave me an amazing opportunity to bowl on Australian soil and to improve my skillsets as well. Definitely have to thank the management for that. I got to know a day or two before the Gabba Test [that I was in the playing XI],” Sundar had told India Today.
In a squad filled with star players, Sundar found a place when India took on England at home. Sundar hit a crucial 85 in the first Test in Chennai and when came up with a match-winning 94 not out in the 4th and final Test as India won the series 3-1 and sealed a spot in the World Test Championship final.
