Women Earn Praise for Quitting Job After Boss Said: Dog’s Death Wasn’t The ‘best Reason’ To Miss Work

Recently, a woman quit her job because she felt revolted by how her boss reacted to the death of her dog. The grieving woman said she faced criticism and judgement from her boss for missing work due to her dog’s death.

A dog parent went viral a few weeks ago for going above and beyond to make her terminally ill pet’s last days memorable. Megan Marshall quit her job to take care of her labrador, Sasha. But, not just that, she set out to achieve a bucket list for her beloved pet of over 15 years.

“Even though she’s always had her own health battles – one of which being a degenerative condition which affects her hind legs – Sasha has always been my rock through my own battles,” Megan had said in May.

Recently, a woman quit her job because she felt disgusted by how her boss reacted to the passing of her dog. The grieving woman said she faced criticism and judgement from her boss for missing work due to her dog’s death.

Managers usually sympathise with the loss of a pet or a beloved family member. While there is no legal obligation for an employer to offer time off after the death of a pet, it’s a gesture that makes the grieving person feel a little better.

In this case, however, the boss was not too empathic. So, the woman decided to walk away from the job for good.

After the story was posted on Reddit, the woman was praised by many for standing up to her manager, who had said her dog’s death wasn’t the “best reason” to miss work.

The woman, who posted under the username hopechayann, posted a screenshot of her text exchange with her boss.

After reading the exchange, thousands of Reddit users voiced their anger at the employer’s behavior and lack of empathy.

“Losing a pet is a heart-wrenching experience. It deserves a grieving period. Unfortunately, this manager is a horrible person,” a Reddit user wrote.

“Never explain what your family emergency is. It is none of their business. And besides, no reason you give is good enough for them,” wrote another.
