Jeanie, the therapy dog, celebrated her 15th Birthday and leading an Inspiring life

On March 27, Jeanie, the three-legged dog, celebrated her 15th birthday. She is the oldest and possibly the most well-known therapy dog in the Lake Area.

After winning a national pet therapy award in 2019, she was brought to Hollywood. She has appeared in commercials, Hallmark Channel, and Access Hollywood programs, as well as the “Today Show.” Jeanie has been featured in publications such as “People,” “Woman’s World,” and animal periodicals. She was featured in a Petco calendar and on the cover of the Dogs On Instagram calendar. She portrayed Sandy in a local production of the Broadway show “Annie,” and local artist Candace Alexander included Jeanie in a painting on the south side of her Ryan Street studio’s brick wall.

Jeanie has been an inspiration, comfort, and delight to fellow amputees, veterans, sexual abuse victims, the old in care homes, the youngsters who wish they had a dog at home, and the sick in health facilities since her adoption.

Children read to Jeanie as well as the other therapy dogs in the library, and the dogs seem truly engaged.

“Jeanie the Three-Legged Dog” and “Jeanie, the Three-Legged Dog: I Don’t Need Four Feet” are two children’s books about Jeanie. The profits will go to local rescue operations.

Jeanie’s treatment visits came to a halt when the governor imposed the COVID stay-at-home order. Jeanie was diagnosed with cancer later that year. Her veterinarian, Dr. Martha Briley, sent her to an oncologist. The procedure constituted a huge risk for Jeanie because she was “of advanced age,” the specialist informed Crochet.

Crochet added, “She made it through the procedure.” “She triumphed against cancer.”

Jeanie’s only front leg failed her in the fall of 2021. She had developed arthritis as a result of her advanced age. Furthermore, because she only had three legs and had to adjust for movement, some spinal discs were in poor condition. Specialists informed Crochet that Jeanie might never walk again.

Jeanie, though semi-retired and typically in her stroller when out and about, continues to work as a therapy dog. Her narrative of surviving and thriving in the face of adversity has only become more appealing as a result of her most recent trials.
