Snatched Dog Found After 5 Days In Gurgaon

After five days of searching, a family found their 9-year-old dog “Hobbes” who was snatched from his owner’s hand around 4 p.m. on last Tuesday afternoon around the green belt outside Vatika city.

Owners looked for the dog everywhere

After losing their dog, the owners put up posters in the nearby regions for information.

B. R . Mehta, Hobbes owner said, “They were led to their beloved pet by a caller who had read the report on Hobbes’ disappearance on January 18. The caller, they said, did not identify himself but had noticed a golden Labrador, which looked similar to Hobbes’ picture in the report, brought to a neighboring house around the same time.”

Supriya Chawla, daughter-in-law of wing commander B. R. Mehta (retd.) from whose hand Hobbes was snatched on January 17, said they got a call around 9.15 a.m. on Saturday. The caller asked for Mehta, a name he had seen in the report.

“He refused to tell his name but directed us to Begumpur Khatola village,” Supriya said. “When we reached the house and asked the occupants about Hobbes, they admitted a dog had been brought to them three days ago by the driver of an auto the family owns. They handed over Hobbes immediately and also gave the mobile number of the auto driver.”

Hobbes is doing fine

The dog was taken to a doctor for a checkup.

“He is fine. He is sleeping a lot but looking relaxed now. I want to thank the media for the support in helping us find Hobbes. The report helped in not only finding him but in also raising awareness about dog-snatching in Gurgaon,” said Mehta (80), who lodged an FIR of snatching at Sadar police station.

Hobbes dressed in a new jacket for his homecoming party, he wagged his tail and followed his parents around the house.

Supriya, Shailen’s wife, said, “He was sleeping on the terrace, and when my husband called out his name, he woke up, looked confused and started howling. It sounded like he was angry at us for leaving him! But after ten minutes, he was just jumping all over us.”

The family in whose house Hobbes was found told the Chawlas about the guy who brought the dog.

Shailen says, “The man who snatched Hobbes was in his 20s, but when we caught the guy the family told us about, he was in his 40s. So we were quite confused. He told us, ‘Main toh auto chalata hoon. Kisi ne mujhe yeh kutta diya aur bola ki woh thode din baad aake le jayega’. But he denied everything when we took him to the police station. He is in custody now.”

The caller did not want the reward money

Shailen adds, “We had announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for any tip on his whereabouts. Since I work with the security department of our society, Vatika City, they also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 from their side. But the caller said he did not want any money.”
