Bengaluru: With unregulated breeding of dogs going rampant in India, pedigree dogs are easily available to people. This over breeding of pedigree dog breeds has also resulted in a large number of dogs ending up on the streets, because people are unable to care for them.
As per People for Cattle in India (PFCI), at least 12 cases of abandoned indie dogs and 2-3 pedigree dogs are reported every week. These dogs are rescued by individual animal rescuers and dog rehabilitation centers run by various NGOs. They keep these dogs until they find permanent homes. However, it is quite difficult to reach the right audience to get these animals adopted.
In an attempt to address this, PFCI in collaboration with Woofyz are organizing an adoption drive in Bengaluru. There are 22 pups and kittens that will be put up for adoption. The puppies are between 2.5 months to 6 months of age and the kittens are around 47 days to 3 months of age.
“The challenge with individulas is that they they struggle with making the potential adopter legally accountable and responsible for the pets that do get adopted. Most families hesitate to adopt a pet as they don’t want to go through the society disapproval. Most don’t have the knowledge and money to look after a pet,” Rithikia Goel, of PFCI said.
The adoption drive will combat these hurdles providing medical, legal, pet boarding and fresh canines concessional support to the pet parents hence making it easier for pet parents in the city.
The adoption drive will be held on 29 May 2016
