At the state-level police duty meeting in Chennai, two detection dogs from the Coimbatore city police’s detective dog squad secured notable achievements by winning silver and bronze medals. Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal honored the dog handlers with these medals during the prize distribution ceremony. Furthermore, the Coimbatore city police’s dog squad clinched a shield for second position in the sniffer dog performance category.
At the second battalion of Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) in Chennai from November 5 to November 10, the state-level duty meeting featured a competition specifically designed for detective sniffer dogs within the police department. Participating in this event were three canines—Wilma, Tiger, and Mala—from the Coimbatore city police.
Wilma, a 7-year-old canine trained to identify and track scents at crime scenes, excelled in the tracker dog category, securing the second position. Tiger, specialized in detecting narcotics, showcased its skills in vehicle search, baggage check, general search, obedience, and food refusal, earning third in the narcotics dogs’ category.
The recognition ceremony took place at the DGP office, where DGP Jiwal personally handed over the medals to the handlers of Wilma and Tiger. S Ambalavanan, the chief instructor at the Detective Dog Squad and Dog Training Centre of the Coimbatore city police, received the shield on behalf of the squad.
