New Curfew Exemption For Dog Walking In Montreal, Canada

MONTREAL — It is now permitted for dogs and their owners to go outside for a walk after 10 p.m. However, just like last year’s curfew, Dog and his owner must stay inside a one-kilometer radius of the house, whether they’re doing their business or going for a walk.

Over the weekend, dog owners were outraged to hear that letting their dogs out late at night was against the curfew restrictions.

In response to the criticism, Quebec has adopted a regulation that includes dog-walking among the activities that are not subject to the curfew.

Traveling to or from a hospital, clinic, dentist office, optometrist office, or immunization clinic is among the other exemptions. Curfew rules do not apply to homeless individuals.

On Monday, Quebec reported 15,293 new COVID-19 cases and 15 new COVID-19 deaths, as Canada’s public safety minister said that members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be mobilized to help the province’s immunization efforts.

The new exemption, which was posted on a government website on Sunday, came in response to complaints from pet owners who complained about the curfew’s lack of provisions for dog walking when it first went into force on Dec. 31.

According to a statement from the Health Department’s Marie-Claude Lacasse, the ministry had first failed to include the exemption.

This is the province’s second time confronting such a move. A previous curfew, which went into place in early January 2021, lasted more than five months.

Adults found in breach of the new restriction might face fines ranging from $1,000 to $6,000, while children 14 and older could face a $500 punishment.
